City panel OKs 'priority hire' bill

SEATTLE — A City Council committee on Thursday unanimously recommended a bill to help low-income people get construction jobs.

The “priority hire” legislation would support apprenticeship programs and require that a percentage of the work on city projects costing over $5 million go to people from economically distressed areas.
