Starbucks Coffee Co. has turned the old Packard auto showroom at 1124 Pike St. on Capitol Hill into the first Reserve Roastery and Tasting Room.
The 15,000-square-foot building includes a cafe and tasting room, and a pizza restaurant opened by Seattle chef Tom Douglas.
Starbucks restored the original facade and the decorative ceiling. Flooring is the original terrazzo and concrete.
Infrastructure was added to support two industrial roasting machines capable of handling over half a ton of coffee per hour.
The Roastery will allow Starbucks to double the amount of small batch coffee called Reserve that it can produce. Two roasters in the building are expected to handle 1.4 million pounds in the first year, and supply Reserve coffee to stores around the world.
