A new building for Green River College in Auburn will provide space for several programs, including aviation, the Small Business Development Center and the Washington Environment Training Center.

It will also house general classrooms, student affairs space, and exam rooms for Washington Certification Services.

The three-story, 31,500-square-foot structure will be known as Auburn Center.

McGranahan Architects is designing the steel-frame building, which will be located at 1221 D St. N.E.

Construction bids are due today to the state Department of Enterprise Services. See the public notice in the April 14 DJC for more details.

The estimated construction contract cost is $9.75 million to $10.25 million.

Work will also involve site improvements such as new sidewalk connections, pedestrian and courtyard improvements, exterior signs and parking 278 vehicles.

Other project team members are Reid Middleton, civil engineer; Jeff Glander & Associates, landscape architect; PCS Structural Solutions, structural engineer; Notkin Mechanical Engineers; Tres West Engineers, electrical engineer; SSA Acoustics, acoustical design; Maxwell Edwards, signage; and Robinson Co., cost estimator.

Green River College purchased 3.7 acres last year for a new campus in north Auburn. Its existing center at 110 Second St. S.W. in downtown Auburn will relocate to the new building.

The school says on its website that it purchased the property for the new campus so it wouldn't need to rent space.

Auburn Center is scheduled to open in time for fall classes in 2016.

Green River College's main campus is at 12401 S.E. 320th St. in Auburn. It has other campuses in Enumclaw and Kent.
