Stacy and Witbeck gets ST bypass job

TACOMA — Sound Transit in an email Friday said it intends to award the Point Defiance Bypass project to Stacy and Witbeck.

On July 8, the DJC reported that Stacy and Witbeck bid $53.8 million for the work, nearly $20 million below the engineer's estimate.

The project will reroute passenger trains inland, away from the shoreline in Tacoma. It is part of a larger project that will improve tracks and systems so that Amtrak can add two round-trip trains between Seattle and Portland, and reduce travel time between the cities.
