Astoria bridge to open by Labor Day

ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) — The Lewis and Clark River Bridge that has been closed since December is set to reopen in time for Labor Day weekend.

The Daily Astorian reports (http://is.gd/FiByM0 ) the bridge has undergone major rehabilitation work, which has contributed to increased traffic congestion since its closure. The bridge provides an alternative route to Astoria and Warrenton, and will be open by Sept. 4.

The repairs are part of a $16.7 million project that also includes maintenance on the Old Youngs Bay Bridge. The overall project is scheduled to be completed in November 2017.

The two bridges are main connections to Lewis and Clark National Historical Park and the Astoria Regional Airport.

The Lewis and Clark River Bridge was built in 1924.
