MOUNT VERNON (AP) — A legal dispute over who is financially responsible for the Skagit River Bridge collapse remains ongoing nearly three years after the incident.
The Skagit Valley Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1QRzOmO ) that a judge in December combined two civil complaints into one lawsuit against Mullen Trucking, which operated the truck that was carrying a tall load when it struck the bridge in Mount Vernon in May 2013.
Both the state and the three people who fell into the river are seeking damages.
The state has attributed the collapse on what is now named the Trooper Sean M. O'Connell Jr. Memorial Bridge to Mullen Trucking and the truck driver, William Scott.
Steve Block, a lawyer representing Mullen Trucking and Scott, says the bridge collapsed because the state failed to properly maintain it.
