Garage comes down in Pioneer Square

Crews from Dickson Co. are tearing away the old three-level parking garage on part of the Merrill Place block next to the viaduct and along South King Street.

The garage is being removed to make room for a 167,000-square-foot office building that Hudson Pacific Properties is developing for $93 million.

Dickson is using two Volvo excavators; one equipped with a LaBounty UP20 universal processor.

A Dickson spokesman said they should be finished by the end of the month. He said they will recycle all of the structure's concrete and leave a little for the base of the new building.

On Monday, Hudson Pacific announced that Saltchuk Resources will lease 91,357 square feet of the eight-story building when it opens in late 2017.

GLY Construction is the general contractor, NBBJ is the architect and Coughlin Porter Lundeen is the structural engineer.
