Goodbye Roosevelt, hello Theodore

The Roosevelt sign and exterior on the 21-story hotel will remain, but the interior will be a lot different.

The Roosevelt Hotel will reopen this fall as Hotel Theodore, honoring people who share the pioneering spirit of its namesake.

The Roosevelt Hotel opened in 1929 at 1531 Seventh Ave., named for President Theodore Roosevelt, who served from 1901 to 1909.

The renovated hotel will highlight the work of Seattle's builders, artists, craftsmen and entrepreneurs — past and present.

“Our goal is to connect guests of Hotel Theodore with Seattle’s unique heritage at the frontier of the nation and the forefront of innovation, while highlighting the Seattle makers and visionaries that are forging the future of our increasingly global world,” said Bashar Wali, president of Portland-based Provenance Hotels, which bought the Roosevelt last year with NBP Capital.

The signature Roosevelt sign and exterior on the 21-story, 151-room building will remain, but the interior will be a lot different, Provenance said in a press release.

Guest rooms will be renovated, and there will be a second-floor gym and 2,415 square feet of meeting space.

Susan Marinello Interiors of Seattle is designing the renovation.

Provenance said it will release details about food and beverage changes later.

Provenance said its portfolio includes Hotel Max in Seattle and Hotel Murano in Tacoma. Provenance and Thayer Lodging Group in February sold Hotel 1000 in Seattle to Loews Hotels & Resorts of New York for $83.5 million.

Last year Provenance opened the renovated Old No. 77 Hotel & Chandlery in New Orleans.
