SEATTLE — WSDOT will be tracking the tunnel machine named Bertha online as it digs under the viaduct starting Friday.
The agency has developed a map that shows the 385-foot route under the viaduct, and it can be seen at wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/Viaduct/99closure/progress.
The map will also show the number of concrete tunnel rings that Bertha builds.
Engineers estimate that 59 rings will be built before Bertha clears the viaduct and WSDOT reopens the elevated highway.
The viaduct decks will be closed to traffic for about two weeks during the dig.
WSDOT plans to update the progress map daily.
