Truck builder Paccar recently opened a $32 million parts distribution center at 750 Houser Way N. on its 80-acre Renton campus.

The distribution center has 160,000 square feet of warehouse space with a 15,000-square-foot small parts mezzanine and 8,500 square feet of office space. It was built by Howard S. Wright, a Balfour Beatty company, and designed by Freiheit & Ho Architects. It's a combination of concrete tilt panels and corrugated metal.

A Paccar news release says the building has high-tech stock-picking equipment with built-in weight scales and a custom parcel conveyor that enable it to store more than 39,000 different parts. The building has nearly three times the capacity of the old parts distribution center that was built in 1973.

The building also has a 50-person training room and a 3-D interactive “Paccar Parts Experience” that demonstrates to visitors the company's distribution network, products and services.

A Paccar spokeswoman said they are looking at how to repurpose the old distribution center.

Paccar Parts operates a network of distribution centers that support Kenworth, Peterbilt and DAF dealerships around the world. The Renton parts center serves dealers in the northwestern U.S. and in western Canada. There are five other parts centers in the U.S.
