KidsQuest Children's Museum has set Jan. 12, 2017, as the opening date for its new location at 1116 108th Ave. N.E. in Bellevue. The 13,500-square-foot space formerly housed the Rosalie Whyel Museum of Doll Art.

GLY Construction is remodeling the building, which will allow the interactive museum to double its exhibit space to 10,000 square feet and add hands-on exhibits and expanded opportunities for children ages 6-9 years. The new location will also have outdoor space to explore the natural environment, and additional classrooms and transitional spaces.

KidsQuest has raised more than $10 million of the $12.7 million needed to buy the property and remodel the building.

The Portico Group is architect and landscape architect. Other team members are MLA Engineering, structural; WSP Parsons Brinckerhoff, mechanical, plumbing and fire protection; Sparling, electrical engineering, technology consulting and lighting design; and Turner Exhibits, Pacific Studio and Dillon Works, exhibit fabricators.

KidsQuest opened in 2005 in Factoria Mall and now gets 180,000 visitors yearly. It encourages learning through play, with an emphasis on science, technology, engineering, art and math. Exhibits are geared towards children from birth to age 8 and their families.

The last day at Factoria will be Nov. 27.
