Big pour for Holland's 40-story Denny tower

Last weekend crews from The Conco Companies poured 5,000 cubic yards of concrete to form the mat foundation for Holland Partner Group's 40-story apartment tower at 970 Denny Way in South Lake Union.

The 16,000-square-foot mat required 1.5 million pounds of rebar. CalPortland supplied concrete.

The core will be built with 386 steel fiber-reinforced concrete coupling beams.

Holland development director Marty Goodman told the DJC earlier this year that the project will be ready for move-in by summer 2018. Residents will share a roof-top deck, gym, media room and business center.

The tower will have 468 units, 15,580 square feet of retail and 359 parking spaces on four below-grade levels. A six-story podium facing Denny will have a brick exterior with steel canopies in a nod to the neighborhood's industrial past. A landscaped deck will sit on top of the podium.

Weber Thompson is the architect and landscape architect, and Holland's construction arm is the general contractor. Other team members are Cary Kopczynski & Co., Susan Marinello Interiors, PSF Mechanical, Valley Electric, Stirrett Johnsen, and Walters & Wolf.
