SEATTLE — Sound Transit selected Absher Construction for a $174 million contract to build an elevated station and guideway for Northgate Link. Work begins this fall on the elevated structure and garage to prepare for opening the extension in 2021.
The station will straddle Northeast 103rd Street east of First Avenue Northeast. Trains will exit the rail tunnels at First Avenue Northeast and Northeast 95th and use a 0.8-mile elevated guideway to reach the station.
The 450-car garage will be at the northeast corner of Northeast 103rd Street and First Avenue Northeast, with a transit island for light rail and bus connections.
The station is due for completion in 2020. Work on underground stations in Roosevelt and U District starts next year.
Northgate Link will cost $1.9 billion and add 4.3 miles. Lynnwood Link is set to open in 2023.
