It looks like the new Ikea store in Renton will be opening at least a month early.
The home furnishings retailer on Wednesday said the 399,000-square-foot store will open on Feb. 22. It previously set the opening date for early spring.
The new store is adjacent to the existing store, between Southwest 41st and South 180th streets, off state Route 167. It was built partly where a parking garage for Ikea shoppers once stood.
After Ikea closes the old store on Feb. 20, Dickson Co. will start demolishing it to create space for a 1,600-car garage. Deacon Corp., the general contractor for the new store, will build the garage. The entire project should be finished in early fall.
The new store will have Ikea's updated design and layout, as well as a larger restaurant serving Swedish specialties.
Atlanta-based GreenbergFarrow is the architect, Barghausen Consulting Engineers is the civil engineer and Transportation Engineering Northwest is the traffic consultant.
About 500 construction jobs were created by the project.
