Boeing Field buildings to be finished in fall

The Signature Flight building will be 6,250 square feet and cost more than $6 million.

Two buildings are taking off at Boeing Field: one for Signature Flight Support and the other for an entity related to billionaire Bill Gates.

The Signature Flight building, shown here, is coming together at 7149 Perimeter Road S., just north of the airport's main terminal. When finished this fall, it will be 6,250 square feet and cost more than $6 million. There also will be a 42,000-square-foot aircraft parking apron and 30,000 square feet of landscaping and parking.

Turner Construction is the general contractor, Rivers & Christian is the architect, and KPFF is in charge of engineering.

Signature Flight's old lobby building, just north of the construction site, will be demolished and used for aircraft parking.

Signature Flight provides flight support services such as fueling, hangar space, ground handling and maintenance. It operates in more than 200 airports throughout the world.

To the south of the main terminal, at 8075 Perimeter Road S., Lease Crutcher Lewis recently poured the slab for a 60,000-square-foot building that will house the corporate flight department for Mente LLC. About 40,000 square feet of the building will be used as hangar space.

The Puget Sound Business Journal last year reported that a private aviation company linked to Microsoft co-founder Gates is building the project. Public records show that Michael Larson is the governor of Mente LLC. Larson is listed by Wikipedia as the manager of Cascade Investment LLC, an entity controlled by Gates.

A county sign posted at the jobsite says the project will be finished in September.

Rohleder Borges Architecture is the architect for the Mente project. Consultants are: Aecom, civil; AHBL, landscaping; MacDonald-Miller Facility Solutions, MEP; and PCS Structural Solutions, structural.

JR Hayes and Prime Electric are subcontractors to Lease Crutcher Lewis.
