This is the fifth year that the Seattle DJC has held the Building of the Year contest. Voting is open at https://www.djc.com/cust/BuildingoftheYear2016/ until Feb. 28.
Here’s a look back at the four past projects that were voted by DJC readers as the best buildings.
Cornish Commons
• 20-story residence hall and academic building with rooftop student lounge and a yellow stripe running up the side and around the top.
Owners: Capstone Development Partners and Harrison Street Real Estate Capital
Architect: Ankrom Moisan Architects
General contractor: Howard S. Wright, a Balfour Beatty company
Paul G. Allen Center for Global Animal Health
• 62,000-square-foot biomedical research center with glass walls to let in light and allow visitors to see the work inside.
Owner: Washington State University
Architect: ZGF Architects
General contractor: Bouten Construction Co.
Sunset Electric
• 92-unit apartment building that incorporates a two-story brick facade that was part of a 1926 auto-row building.
Owner: Wolff Co. (now owned by ASB Real Estate Investments)
Architect: Weber Thompson
General contractor: Compass General Construction
Swedish/Issaquah Medical Center
• $360 million campus consisting of a 200,000-square-foot medical office with eight retail stores and a 156,000-square-foot hospital with 80 beds.
Owner: Swedish Health Services
Architects: CollinsWoerman and Callison
General contractor: Sellen Construction
