Tacoma Country & Golf Club reworks pro shop

The pro shop building at Tacoma Country & Golf Club in Lakewood has had a few additions over the years and even served as a temporary clubhouse after the main clubhouse was destroyed by fire in 1961. Now the building is getting some more attention with an addition and remodel.

Jon Graves Architects & Planners of Tacoma designed a new pro shop as an appendix to the building and reworked the old pro shop into space for club and cart storage operations. The project is adding about 1,700 square feet, resulting in a 7,200-square-foot building.

BPCI of Puyallup is building the wood-frame addition and improvements that include a new roof.

Jon Graves said the design echoes that of the existing clubhouse.

The $1.65 million project includes a new seven-station covered driving range and teaching building. Graves said the 1,500-square-foot building will have an interior training component that can open to the driving range.

Both buildings are expected to open in June.

AHBL of Tacoma is the civil and structural engineer.

Graves, BPCI and AHBL were the team for a 2009 expansion to the clubhouse that added a 6,000-square-foot members-only bar and dining area.
