SNOQUALMIE PASS — This week WSDOT is switching westbound Interstate 90 traffic onto a second new avalanche bridge near Snoqualmie Pass.
The first avalanche bridge was completed in summer 2016. This configuration will provide three lanes westbound and two lanes eastbound over the bridges. Eventually, there will be three lanes open on each bridge.
Guy F. Atkinson Construction is the general contractor.
The bridges are part of a 15-mile improvement project on I-90 between Hyak and Easton that is being built in phases.
Work on the first five miles is expected to wrap up next year. A two-mile segment that includes a wildlife overpass is scheduled to finish in 2019, and construction on the remaining eight miles will start in 2021.
The entire project is tentatively scheduled to finish in 2027.
