At its annual conference earlier this month in Lynnwood, the Northwest Construction Consumer Council presented its 2017 Distinguished Project Awards to five teams.

Here are the winning projects: Factoria Recycling and Transfer Station, Green Project for Innovation in Sustainability; Fremont Siphon Replacement, Best Public Project over $10 million; new refinery laboratory at Shell Puget Sound Refinery, Patrick Lyneis Memorial Safety Award; Alaska Airlines Concourse C Lounge at Sea-Tac Airport, Best Private Project under $10 million; and Delta Sky Club at Sea-Tac Airport, Best Private Project over $10 million.

PCL Construction was the general contractor for three of the projects, including the Factoria transfer station.

“I can't think of a more deserving project to win the Green Project Award,” said Jeff Pietz, PCL Construction's project manager for the Factoria project, in a news release. “The transfer station went from a facility without recycling capabilities to a facility that can divert every piece of recyclable and compostable material that is delivered, while also reducing the number of trucks on the road headed to the landfill.”

Here is what NWCCC lists as the winning teams for the projects:

• Factoria Recycling and Transfer Station: King County Solid Waste Division, HDR, PCL Construction, Parametrix and JRMA.

• Fremont Siphon Replacement: King County Wastewater Treatment Division, Stantec, Stellar J, Jacobs, SCL and Shannon & Jacobs.

• New refinery laboratory: Shell Puget Sound Refinery, Anvil Engineering, JH Kelly, Mills Electric, Smith LaRock Architecture, BCER Engineering (Rimrock Technology and Rondinelli Life Safety), and Veca Electric & Technologies.

• Alaska Airlines Concourse C Lounge: Alaska Airlines, JPC Architects, PCL Construction, Stantec, Mazzetti, MKA, Evergreen Power Systems, Hermanson, Lacey Glass, Performance Contracting, Great Floors, PAS/PCI and Steelkorr.

• Delta Sky Club: Delta Air Lines, ECH Architecture, PCL Construction, KPFF Consulting Engineers, Mazzetti, Elcon Associates, Metals Fabrication Co., Evergreen Erectors, Evergreen Power, Holmberg Co., Lacey Glass, Performance Contracting, Cobra BEC, Burke Gibson, Mehrer Drywall, Great Floors, Ascendent and Red Hawk Fire Protection.

The awards recognize public and private projects based on excellence in engineering, design, construction, safety and sustainability.

NWCCC is an organization focusing on cost-effective construction practices.
