Loews Hotel 1000

Loews Hotel 1000 at First Avenue and Madison Street in Seattle has completed a multi-million dollar renovation.

Improvements were be made to the 120 guest rooms, meeting space, lobby and restaurant. The update was designed to be “luminous” and “modern,” while paying homage to the history of the location, which once housed Warshal’s Sporting Goods.

Guest rooms have been refinished with grays, greens and rose colors. Vanities, mirrors and wall coverings were replaced, but some features were kept, such as bathtubs that fill from the ceiling and electric shades that lower for privacy on the glass walls between the bathrooms and sleeping areas.

Dark finishes in the lobby were replaced with white finishes, and walls opened to let in more light. The design takes inspiration from the Puget Sound, with a glass-beaded wall in the foyer meant to recall the water on a sunny day. A light fixture made up of more than 250 hand-blown LED glass droplets acts as “an artistic representation of the rain.”

The restaurant remodel hearkens back to 1936, when the site housed a bait and tackle shop. Rustic finishes such as white-washed wood, metal and white brick bring to mind fishing boats.
