Seattle harbor may become the deepest in the country

  • If Congress approves, the East and West waterways will be deepened to 57 feet to accommodate modern container ships.
  • Seattle Harbor's East and West waterways will become the deepest in the nation if a dredging project is authorized by Congress.

    Last week, the Army Corps of Engineers approved the Seattle Harbor Navigation Improvement Project. Under the proposal, both waterways will be deepened to 57 feet to accommodate modern container ships.
