Illegal dam fails, and costs owner $2.6M

The dam was nearly 19 feet tall, and over 400 feet wide. The breach last year released more than 9 million gallons of water.

An unpermitted dam failed last year at the headwaters of Rattlesnake Creek in Asotin County, and the state Department of Ecology said the owner has agreed to spend $2.5 million to restore the damage it caused to the area.
