City energy code update goes too far: architects

The city of Seattle is updating its energy code to create more efficient buildings, but some architects say the changes go too far in limiting design.

Every three years, the city updates its energy code with a goal of being 20 percent more efficient than the national code, ASHRAE 90.1. Washington state also recently updated its energy code, which goes into effect July 1. Seattle officials hope to have the city code updated by then so they will go into effect simultaneously.
