Seattle sets strong environment goals

SEATTLE — Yesterday, the Seattle City Council passed a resolution calling for the reduction of city greenhouse gas emissions to zero by 2050.

The resolution sets preliminary emissions targets for transportation, building energy and waste. By 2020, the resolution calls for a 14 percent reduction in vehicle miles travelled, an 8 percent reduction in building energy use and a 69 percent waste diversion rate.
