City: benchmarking is off to a good start

Most building owners and managers are participating in the city program that requires them to track and report energy usage in their buildings.

The city reports that 87 percent of all commercial and multifamily buildings larger than 50,000 square feet logged their energy use for 2011 under Seattle's Energy Benchmarking and Reporting Ordinance. The city says this represents about 1,160 properties and more than 200 million square feet of building space.
