Engineers help team of very young scientists improve their stormwater treatment design

These fourth grade girls from Columbia Elementary School in Mukilteo placed third in the statewide Destination Imagination tournament. They learned from engineers at University Mechanical Contractors that adding crushed crab shells would make their stormwater filter work better.

University Mechanical Contractors' Jakob Sjoberg and John MacPherson are used to making presentations for the firm's Environmental Water Treatment Group, but a talk they gave recently to a rapt group of scientists in Mukilteo may have been one of the most crucial.
