$25M grants OKd for salmon projects

About $13.6 million was approved for work on Fir Island. The project involves moving a mile-long coastal dike to restore tidal flow to 131 acres. About 125.5 acres of tidal marsh habitat will be restored and 5 acres of new habitat will be created.

Jefferson County will get $4.2 million for a bridge to replace two culverts under SR 116 to increase tidal flushing, improve water quality and restore salmon habitats in Kilisut Harbor, at the south end of Indian and Marrowstone Islands.
