Tetra Tech to clean up WWII munitions

SILVERDALE — The Naval Facilities Engineering Command Northwest announced it recently awarded a $7.9 million contract to Tetra Tech EC of San Diego to perform a munitions cleanup on Adak Island in Alaska.

Adak Island is the location of the former Adak Naval Air Facility, which was closed in 1997. The majority of the ordnance contamination is believed to have been associated with World War II-era training exercises, according to the Navy.
