April showers bring landslide warnings

SEATTLE (AP) — The National Weather Service in Seattle has issued an alert for an “elevated threat of rainfall-induced landslides” through Tuesday.

KING5-TV reports this follows a series of storms that have deluged the Puget Sound region.

Officials say April may break records for rain.

The Department of Natural Resources has been charting prone areas now for several years and is in the process of finalizing a list of slide areas in King County.

The agency says there are at least 2,000 spots around the county which have had a landslide at one point in time.

The DNR, in a series of tweets, advised people to check for tilting trees, cracks in sidewalks or foundations, and sudden difficulty opening doors or windows. They are all of potential ground shifts.
