Apartment investment guru Maxwell Drever will always have a special place in his heart for Seattle because it was here some 30 years ago that the San Franciscan's reputation as a contrarian investor began to soar.
Seattle, struggling with the Boeing bust, was like a sinking ship, and investors were fleeing. But Drever saw something others didn't. It compelled him not only to buy 17 apartment complexes but also sink more money into improving them.
