WSU gets grant for Spokane lab

SPOKANE -- Washington State University announced the extension of its Institute for Shock Physics to Spokane.

WSU has gotten a $6.5 million grant from the Office of Naval Research to support research in the new Applied Sciences Laboratory, which has operations in Spokane and Pullman. The work involves understanding how solids and liquids behave under very large and rapid compression.

A WSU spokesperson said the work initially will be done in 1,000 square feet in existing facilities. The school is looking for about 7,000 square feet.
