SEATTLE — The fourth international Beeronomics Conference will be at Sheraton Seattle Hotel Sept. 8-9. This is the first time the event has been held outside Europe.

The gathering is held every other year by the Beeronomics Society and focuses on the business of beer and brewing. Washington State University is organizing the Seattle event.

“Our proposal to host was based on Washington having one of the strongest microbrew cultures in the U.S. and the most hops grown of any state,” said Jill McCluskey, a WSU economics professor who, with colleague Tom Marsh, is co-organizing the event.

McCluskey said the growth of craft beers has changed the economics of the industry.

A Sept. 7 field trip will visit hop fields and production areas around Yakima. Social events and trips to local breweries will occur throughout the conference, mostly in the evenings.

There will be a cider symposium Sept. 9 focusing on the economics of hard cider.

Tickets start at $200, with discounts for students. Learn more at http://www.beeronomics2015.org.
