Step back in time to a 1930s-era fishing resort at Cama Beach on Camano Island. On Aug. 11-12 is a free summer music and dance event for all ages and all levels.

OLYMPIA — Washington State Parks & Recreation Commission is offering the free Summer Music and Dance Series at Cama Beach Historical State Park, with acoustic music around a campfire, and family dances with live callers.

Friday Tunes on the Beach is Aug. 11 from 7 to 8 p.m. and Saturday Family Dance is from 7 to 9 p.m. Aug.12, at the Cama Center at Cama Beach Historical State Park, 1880 S.W. Camano Drive on Camano Island.

The commission said in a press release that live music and family square dances were a traditional part of 1930s summer activities at Cama Beach when the state park was a fishing resort. Musicians will play fiddle, guitar and banjo, and experienced callers will get people dancing. Both events are family oriented and open to all ages and all levels.

For information about Folk and Traditional Arts in the Parks go to http://parks.state.wa.us/folkarts or contact Debbie Fant, Program Coordinator, at Deborah.Fant@parks.wa.gov or (360) 902-8635. Information about reserving a cabin is at: http://parks.state.wa.us/483/Cama-Beach.

Cama Beach park is connected by a mile-long trail to Camano Island State Park.
