SEATTLE — Tickets are on sale now for a new adaptation of Jane Austen's classic love story “Pride and Prejudice,” which runs through Oct. 29 at Seattle Repertory Theatre.

The romance novel was first published in 1813 and more than 20 million copies have been sold. The play was adapted by Kate Hamill and is directed by Amanda Dehnert.

The Rep calls the play “a decidedly progressive take on the trials and travails of Elizabeth Bennet, Mr. Darcy, and, of course the delightful Bennet clan.” But don't worry: There are plenty of empire waists and lavish Regency-era attire in this adaptation, which seems familiar yet surprisingly modern.

Braden Abraham, the Rep's artistic director said, “Kate Hamill has given this iconic novel new life through bold theatricality and her keen insight into character and relationships. She is faithful to Austen while also staying true to her own unique take on the story.”

Ticket are available from the Rep box office at (206) 443-2222 or toll-free at (877) 900-9285, or online at seattlerep.org
