After Hours: Needle's Skyrisers are open now

Want a thrill? Head for the Space Needle and take a seat on the new glass benches. Just lean back and pretend you are floating 520 feet up in the air.

SEATTLE — Now you can take a selfie while you float over Seattle on a Skyriser, one of the Space Needle's new glass benches.

The inclined benches are attached to the new 11-foot high glass walls on the observation level, so you can lean back and pretend you are floating 520 feet up in the air. Ten benches are open now and eventually there will be 24.

They are part of the $100 million Space Needle renovation. Nearly 80 percent of the observation level will be completed by the weekend. The old pony walls and caging are gone, replaced with 48 glass panels and Skyrisers.

The Space Needle is open during construction. By Fourth of July weekend, both levels will be fully open to the public.
