After Hours: Monthly bird walk Dec. 5 in Issaquah

This state is home to nearly 350 species of birds, many of which spend the winter here. Find out more about birds and their habitat on a bird walk at Lake Sammamish.

ISSAQUAH — Friends of Lake Sammamish and Eastside Audubon Society will hold their next monthly bird walk Dec. 5 at Lake Sammamish State Park.

The walk is two to three miles, and starts at 8 a.m. just inside the park entrance at 2000 N.W. Sammamish Road. The group will meet at the northeast end of the large parking lot. No registration required, but information is available from Sharon Aagaard at (425) 891-3460. A Discover Pass is required to park.

Many migratory birds have left for the season, so the walk will focus on birds that winter here: northern flickers, bald eagles, American coots and great blue herons.

Washington state is a stopping point for migrating birds and home to nearly 350 species. Lake Sammamish State Park is a good place to spot birds because of its varied ecosystems.
