ESA Vigil-Agrimis

In Portland, ESA Vigil-Agrimis hired Colin Thorne as senior river scientist working on wetland, estuary and riverine habitat restoration, and Darlene Siegel as senior aquatic and fisheries biologist. Thorne holds a Ph.D. and has 40 years of experience in environmental sciences, civil engineering and physical geography. He is a visiting professor at Tsinghua University in Beijing, and a faculty affiliate at Portland State University. He has worked on international and Northwest river projects. Siegel has nearly two decades of experience in aquatic habitat restoration projects, and has worked with governments, nonprofits, watershed councils and conservation groups. She will help develop restoration solutions. ESA Vigil-Agrimis is an environmental consulting firm based in San Francisco.

Graphite Design Group

DiStefano

Seattle-based architectural firm Graphite Design Group promoted Patrick DiStefano to principal and hired Karen Campbell as a senior interior designer and market leader. DiStefano has been with Graphite since 2012, and was previously a senior project manager with Gensler in Seattle. He will help lead expansion of the office and mixed-use studio. Campbell will launch the corporate interiors practice. She has over 23 years of experience in Seattle designing and managing projects and interior design teams, starting with B&OI in 1991 and most recently with JPC Architects in Bellevue.

Freiheit & Ho Architects

Losekann

Freiheit & Ho Architects hired Andrea Losekann and Mike Langston as intern architects. Losekann has more than 15 years of architectural experience with firms in Seattle and Brazil, with knowledge of design, code analysis and permitting and research. She is a certified Sustainable Building Advisor. Langston has seven years of design and project management experience in residential, mixed-use retail, industrial office and government projects. They will join a team that works on retail, restaurant and mixed-use projects. The firm provides architectural and interior design services.

Hanson Professional Services

Mueller

Railroad designer Jonathan Mueller joined the Seattle office of Hanson Professional Services. He will work on railway and telecommunications infrastructure. Mueller was an intern in the office and worked on product development for 3M Co. in Minnesota. He has a bachelor's in physics, a master's in mechanical engineering and a doctorate in civil engineering. Hanson is a national consulting firm providing engineering, planning and allied services.

DCI Engineers

Swanson

DCI Engineers promoted Kris Swanson as principal in the Austin office, which he helped launch six years ago. DCI said Swanson has partnerships with regional clients and has been with the firm for 10 years. The Seattle-based civil and structural engineering firm also has offices in Spokane, Portland, Eugene, San Diego, Irvine, San Francisco and Anchorage.

Washington State University, Koru

Washington State University and Koru, a Seattle-based startup, have formed a partnership to help students find jobs after college. Teams of students tackle challenges with coaching from executives at companies like zulily, REI and Payscale, and present their plans to executives. Koru launched in 2013, and has partnerships with Whitman College, Georgetown University, Pomona College and USC. It is expanding to San Francisco in September.

Propel Insurance

Tacoma-based Propel Insurance said it has acquired Assurety Northwest. It will combine Propel's experience in claims, loss control and commercial/comp expertise, with Assurety's large team of benefits, commercial and personal lines professionals, including principals Jeff Bieker and Bryan Ludwick who will join Propel as partners in the Portland office. Propel offers property, casualty, risk management, worker's comp, employee benefits, personal insurance and other products.

PlaceFull.com, Judy's Book

Two Seattle startups, PlaceFull.com and Judy's Book, have partnered to help small businesses get business online. PlaceFull.com is rolling out 11 new directories of merchants to help Judy's Book consumers get booked online. It also will display Judy's Book reviews. New directories are for service providers such as home inspectors, artists, painters, roofers and handyman services. Merchants have a dedicated page and access to services such as a free mobile app and credit card reader.

Association of School Administrators

The Washington Association of School Administrators elected Frank Hewins, superintendent of Franklin Pierce Schools, president-elect for 2014–15. Hewins will assume the presidency in July 2015, following the term of the current president, Michelle Price, superintendent, Moses Lake School District.

The Seattle office of Lease Crutcher Lewis hired Sara Angus as project manager, Marshall Kennedy and Aaron Ullrich as project engineers, and Bree Brewer and Sheryl Byrne as operations assistants. Angus was a project manager at Lewis from 2005-09, has been in the industry since 1998 and lectures in construction management at the University of Washington. Kennedy has been in construction since 2008 and holds a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Oregon State University. He is working on the 1915 Terry renovation. Ullrich has been in construction since 2007 and holds a bachelor's degree in construction management from Washington State University. He is working on the Neighborcare Meridian Center for Health project. Brewer has eight years of administrative expertise and attended Green River Community College. Byrne has more than 10 years of administration experience in the engineering, consulting and testing industries. She holds an associate's degree in business administration from South Seattle College.

The Seattle office of Andersen Construction hired Craig Holt as senior project manager, Mike Pace as safety team lead, Cody Castellano as project engineer and Ron Huffman as project manager in the Special Projects Division. Holt has nearly 30 years of construction experience with a focus on health-care. Pace has 15 years of experience in construction safety. Castellano has a decade of logistics and management experience, and is changing careers to construction management. Huffman has been working in construction for nearly 10 years.

Mortenson Construction added Trent Rehfeldt as project development manager in the Portland office, where he is leading the business development team. Rehfeldt has more than 14 years of construction management and business development experience. Prior to joining Mortenson, he was senior project manager at a commercial real estate firm in Portland.

Gig Harbor-based Washington Patriot Construction hired Aaron Ngwashi as IT administrator and Kari Beck as administrative assistant. Ngwashi is maintaining the company's IT network, servers and security systems. He holds associate's degrees in networking and convergence technologies from Tacoma Community College and ITT Technical Institute. Beck is supporting the company's accounting department, as well as marketing, estimating and project management functions. She holds an associate's degree in accounting.

Sequoyah Electric hired David Kertzman as senior estimator. Kertzman has more than 27 years of experience in pre-construction, estimating and project management in the electrical construction industry. He is working out of the company's headquarters in Redmond.
