Cary Kopczynski & Co. promoted Matt Hopper to managing principal, Illinois, Bill Liang to assistant BIM manager and Pam Beltz to office administrator. It hired Nicolas Rodrigues as managing principal, California, Brian Nielsen and Koren Britt as senior design engineers, Ben Tarassoli as a design engineer and Adriana Torres as an administrative assistant. Hopper is managing principal in Chicago. He has 13 years of structural engineering experience, eight with CKC, and is working on 1001 West Chicago: two apartment towers on a retail podium in Chicago. Liang has 19 years of CAD/BIM experience, four with CKC. He will focus on BIM quality control. He is working on the Lincoln Square expansion in Bellevue. Beltz has been with the firm since 2007 and has 25 years of administrative experience. She also assists with project coordination and manages purchasing. Rodrigues is managing principal of the San Francisco office, where he leads the structural engineering team. He has nearly 15 years of experience worldwide, including high rises in the United Arab Emirates. He is working on 1200 South Figueroa: two 35-story residential towers in Los Angeles. Nielsen has 10 years of experience and is working on 245 Columbine, a seven-story hotel in Denver. Britt has 11 years of experience and is working on Potala Tower, a 440-foot residential project in Seattle. Tarassoli is a civil engineering graduate of the University of Washington. He is supporting project managers on the Yakama Nation Legends Casino/Hotel Expansion in Toppenish. Torres has five years of experience and assists the office administrator and project managers. CKC is a Bellevue-based structural engineering firm with offices in San Francisco and Chicago.

In Seattle, Mackenzie hired Kim Doyle as a project manager, Crystal Torres as a land use planner and Jordan Roberts as an architectural designer. Doyle is an interior designer specializing in civic, corporate and federal projects. She has 15 years in the industry. Torres assists in land-use planning and due diligence. She holds a bachelor's in sustainability and the built environment, and a master's in urban and regional planning from the University of Florida. Roberts holds a bachelor of architecture degree from the University of Southern California. Prior to joining the firm, he helped design a campsite master plan and a visitor pavilion for Joshua Tree National Park. Mackenzie provides architecture and interior design; structural, civil and traffic engineering; land use and transportation planning; and landscape architecture.

Pace Engineers

Sherrow

Pace Engineers hired Scott Sherrow as a senior principal engineer. Sherrow's experience includes management and design for commercial projects, subdivisions, roadways, water systems, and storm and sewer systems. Pace is a civil and structural engineering, planning, and surveying firm with offices in Kirkland, Wenatchee and Lake Oswego.

Becia

a|r|c Architects hired Coreen Becia and Matthew Philbrook as architectural designers. Becia holds a master's in architecture from the University of Idaho and worked in Seattle for a year before joining a|r|c. She is working on the Kirkland and Redmond city halls. Philbrook graduated with a master's in architecture from the University of Oregon, and is working on Dawson's Place Child Advocacy Center in Everett.

BHC Consultants

Gibson

BHC Consultants hired Jeffrey Gibson as a principal engineer for electrical engineering. Gibson has 25 years of experience on water and wastewater treatment plants and pump stations, commercial buildings, airport terminals, education projects, manufacturing plants, and high tech facilities. BHC is a municipal services consulting firm with offices in Seattle and Tacoma.

Coffman Engineers

Coffman Engineers hired Gary Engleson and Rick Farrington as senior commissioning managers in Seattle. They have over four decades of collective commissioning and engineering experience, and worked at an international firm with projects in the U.S. and overseas. Coffman provides engineering services including civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, fire protection, process piping, instrumentation and controls, and corrosion control engineering and project management, commissioning and land survey services.

Soundview Consultants

Soundview Consultants hired Parshuram Acharya as a wetlands specialist and Bronte Hopkins as a staff scientist in Gig Harbor. Parshuram has a background in wetland delineation, plant ecology and taxonomy, vegetation and forest resource inventories, biological assessments, wetland restoration, and mitigation planning. Bronte has experience in wildlife surveys, administration and marketing, and community outreach and education.

Oregon Liquor Control Commission

Burns

The Oregon Liquor Control Commission named Tom Burns director of marijuana programs to lead implementation of the marijuana legalization law approved in November. Burns has been director of pharmacy programs at the Oregon Health Authority since 2008 and oversaw the state's medical marijuana program.

Lane Powell

Yesica Hernandez has joined Lane Powell as an attorney in the Litigation Practice Group. She was a summer associate with Lane Powell, an extern for the Honorable Paul L. Friedman of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, an intern for Northwest Immigrant Rights Project in Seattle and studied in Peru as a Fulbright-mtvU fellow.

Grays Harbor Historical Seaport Authority

Allen

Grays Harbor Historical Seaport Authority, which operates the tall ships Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain, said Capt. Connie Allen is the new manager of Project SAIL. Allen will upgrade Voyages of Discovery, a maritime history program that serves 8,000 students a year in Washington, Oregon and California. Allen has crewed on tall ships and worked at Los Angeles Maritime Institute and the Maritime Museum of San Diego.
