The Watershed Co. hired Roen Hohlfeld as a landscape designer/ecologist and Logan Dougherty as an ecologist. Hohlfeld has over 10 years of experience in wetland and stream ecology, environmental policy, landscape architecture and construction management. Dougherty supports the natural resources group with wetland and stream delineations, arborist studies, monitoring projects and technical writing. Watershed provides natural resources assessment, mitigation and restoration design, environmental planning and permitting, arborist and landscape architecture services.

Bassetti Architects promoted Michael Davis and Jordan Kiel to principal, Joe Echeverri to associate principal, James Howeth, Steve Zang, Amanda Clausen and Ed Noland to senior associate, and Charlie Bucheit, Susan Conway, Mark Smedley, Greg Vohs and Elaine Erwin to associate. Davis leads the firm's K-12 educational sector, managing projects, including the recent completion of five high schools. He is leading Seattle Public Schools' BEX V Capital Levy project, and recently completed design of the Lincoln High School renovation and modernization in Seattle. Kiel heads collegiate and progressive design/build projects, helped re-shape the firm's management and IT systems, and chairs the Seattle Landmarks Preservation Board. Echeverri leads the Portland office. His projects include Five Oaks Middle School, and Roosevelt, Benson, Tigard and Tualatin high schools. Howeth has a background in technical detailing, 3-D modeling, and construction administration. He is working on Lynnwood and Mountlake Terrace elementary schools. Zang has a background in building code and site design issues, and is working on two elementary schools for Edmonds School District. Clausen has led the firm's interior design department for five years. She has deep knowledge of learning environments and advocates for healthy interiors. Noland has been with Bassetti for six years and led the in-house design group. Bucheit has five years with Bassetti, and led contract administration during construction for the recently completed Arbor Heights School. Conway is managing four school projects and administrating construction of a landmark fire station. Smedley is managing the Highline High School project. Vohs has led document production and construction administration for Roosevelt High School in Portland. Erwin is on the marketing team and has provided experiential graphics for projects.

The Blueline Group

Castillo

The Blueline Group hired Juan Castillo as a construction inspector/engineer-in-training. Castillo holds a bachelor's in civil engineering from Florida Atlantic University and does public works projects. Blueline provides civil engineering and land use planning.

FEMA

Mike O'Hare is the new Region 10 administrator for the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Before joining FEMA, O'Hare was with the Alaska Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, most recently as director of the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management. He will be responsible for FEMA's efforts in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, Washington and 271 federally recognized tribes and Alaska Native villages.

Washington State University

Susmita Bose, a professor in Washington State University's School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering, has been named a fellow of the National Academy of Inventors. Her work focuses on using technology to improve health. She holds seven patents and seven are currently pending, and has done research on 3D printed bone tissue engineering scaffolds.

InterIm CDA

InterIm Community Development Association received a multiple-year grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for Set for Success, a program in the Chinatown International District and South Seattle. InterIm CDA owns five buildings in Chinatown-International District and Rainier Valley with 305 units and 577 residents. InterIm CDA said the grant will help residents with issues that impact low-income immigrants and refugees.

City of Bellevue

The city of Bellevue said it is a finalist in an energy competition called the Georgetown University Energy Prize, which focuses on rethinking how small- to medium-sized towns, cities and counties use energy. Bellevue said residents have saved over $2 million in energy costs and 10,800 metric tons of carbon dioxide. In addition, the city said it avoided $58,000 in energy bills, as well as saving 1.3 million kilowatt-hours from streetlight upgrades. A panel of judges pick the winner of the top prize, which includes help in funding an energy dream project, and public education.

David Schmidt is the new COO for Skanska USA Commercial Development, which self-finances, develops, leases and divests commercial and multifamily projects. Schmidt has more than 35 years of industry experience and holds a bachelor's degree in construction engineering management from Oregon State University. He is based in the Seattle office. Jim Link is taking Schmidt's old position of COO overseeing building operations in the Pacific Northwest, Texas and Arizona. Link has 33 years of industry experience and holds a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Portland and a master's degree in construction engineering and management from Stanford University. He is based in Portland. Tim Johnson is taking Link's old position of executive vice president and general manager for Oregon operations. Johnson has been with Skanska for 23 years and holds a bachelor's degree from Boise State University. He is based in Portland.

The Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties installed Erich Armbruster of Ashworth Homes as 2018 president and board chair.
