Chicago firm targets Northwest apartments

Expecting to ride the Puget Sound area's bust-and-boom cycle, a Chicago investment group placing a large California pension fund's money recently bought two large and upgradable apartment complexes here and has a third under contract.

Waterton Associates LLC paid a Harvard University endowment fund $30.75 million for the 260-unit Mission Ridge apartments in Renton and the 221-unit Turnberry apartments in Everett.
