SEATTLE -- Washington Mutual officials announced Thursday they bought from the Seattle Art Museum and Museum Development Authority the parcel for WaMu's new headquarters and the museum's expansion. The price was $18 million.
WaMu officials said they also bought from the authority the Heliparker Garage at the southwest corner of First and Union for $9.7 million. The garage could be expansion space for WaMu and/or the museum, according to the company.
WaMu is building a 42-story office tower on the east half of the block between First and Second avenues at Union. The west half of the block will consist of 12 floors of expansion space for the museum and four floors of office for Washington Mutual above the museum. The overall project total is about $300 million.
Project architects are NBBJ and Allied Works Architecture. Sellen Construction is the contractor. Pine Street Group and The Seneca Real Estate Group are developing the project.
