Breaking it down — CREW by the numbers

By CAROLYN DAVIS
CB Richard Ellis

When a group of Seattle-area women gathered 20 years ago to create a networking organization for what was then a very small slice of the commercial real estate industry, they hoped their vision would carry far into the future.

That groundwork has led to the success of today’s CREW Seattle chapter in both breadth and depth, as the next generation has entered the commercial real estate profession in ever increasing numbers.

CREW Seattle has added nearly 100 members in the last three years, now nearing 300 members, representing all facets of the industry. The chapter has seen strong growth by members specializing in construction and engineering as well as the heart of the industry: development. Those involved with financing, title, escrow and the legal aspects of a real estate transaction still make up a large part and the traditional strength of Seattle’s membership in CREW.

Nationally, CREW Network represents a well-educated and experienced group of 6,000 professionals, with international membership that includes all disciplines of commercial real estate — every expert required to “do the deal.”

Here are some interesting tidbits:

• More than 63 percent of members are presidents, CEOs, partners, or senior managers of their firms.

• CREW Network members have an average of 14 years of experience in the commercial real estate industry.

• More than 75 percent have received or given a referral from or to another member.

The Seattle chapter mirrors the national trend with over 40 percent of members being principals, partners, vice presidents or directors of their firms. The networking that is possible through CREW is invaluable to professionals in the industry and many new applicants report that they have to be involved in CREW in order to advance their career.
