King County agrees to rail deal with port

By JOURNAL STAFF

SEATTLE — The King County Council voted unanimously to purchase a 26-mile easement on the southern portion of BNSF Railway’s Eastside rail corridor, where it plans to build a trail.

The Port of Seattle is purchasing the entire 42-mile corridor from BNSF Railway for $107 million. It plans to continue freight rail operations on the corridor’s northern section.
