Two developers plan a $1 million renovation of the American Hotel Building at 520 S. King St. to turn it into dorm-style apartments or a hostel, or both.

Two local developers are teaming up to turn a former single-room-occupancy hotel in the International District into a moderate-rent project that will include tiny apartments, hostel rooms or both in a market that has become increasingly pricey.
