There's so much more to a restaurant than food. The design and ambience play an important role. Designers put in every detail with a purpose. Themes sometimes carry over throughout neighborhoods, and the feel of South Lake Union's burgeoning crop of restaurants is clear, modern, but historical.
Amazon.com is writing a new chapter in the neighborhood's history book with hundreds of thousands of square feet of office space, and others are following suit. But rather than forgetting about the past, developers have gone out of their way to maintain pieces of South Lake Union's industrial history. That includes apartment complexes like the Stack House, which will preserve an old smoke stack, and it extends to the restaurants, built only in the last couple years as hangouts for the neighborhood's thousands of high-tech employees.
