SEATTLE The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is moving the Seattle regional office into Columbia Center.
Federal officials said HHS will take part of the 15th floor and all of the 16th and 17th floors a total of 55,627 square feet on a 10-year lease with an option for five more years.
According to officespace.com, the 1.5 million-square-foot Columbia Center has 363,611 square feet of vacant space and tenants have absorbed 201,000 square feet this year.
HHS is downsizing from 107,000 square feet in Blanchard Plaza at 2201 Sixth Ave. The move is expected to save $10 million.
HHS is expected to move into the space next April after tenant improvements are complete.
Beacon Capital Partners of Boston owns the building at 701 Fifth Ave.
