Haggen to acquire 146 grocery stores

Haggen, the Bellingham-based grocery chain, said today it has reached an agreement to acquire 146 Albertsons and Safeway stores as part of the divestment of properties following the merger of those two chains.

If the Federal Trade Commission approves, Haggen will expand from 18 stores with 16 pharmacies to 164 stores with 106 pharmacies, and from 2,000 employees to more than 10,000 employees
