Mill Creek Residential Trust of Dallas said it wants to start construction right away on a seven-story, 294-unit apartment complex at 435 Dexter Ave. N. in South Lake Union.
The units are scheduled to open in early 2017.
Mill Creek Residential bought the land this week from an entity related to Portland-based United States Bakery, better known as Franz Family Bakery. Mill Creek paid a little more than $19 million for the site, or about $426 per square foot.
Fish Mackay Architects is designing the project, and Mill Creek Residential will be the contractor.
When the viaduct project is finished, there will be an exit near the tunnel's north portal and Mill Creek's future building. Harrison Street, just south of the site, will become a through street rather than dead-end at SR 99 as it does now.
Mill Creek Residential was founded in 2010 by former executives from Trammell Crow Residential.
