Amazon eyes site for Prime Now hub

SEATTLE — Amazon.com appears to be considering a site in Seattle to build a distribution hub for its one-hour delivery service.

Permit records filed with the city in early May indicate Amazon plans to renovate a former Toyota dealership on a block it owns that is bounded by Blanchard and Lenora streets, and Seventh and Eighth avenues.

A site plan calls the project “Prime Now,” which is the name of the rapid delivery service Amazon rolled out last year for Amazon Prime customers in New York. The service has since expanded to other cities, but not Seattle. Prime customers pay $7.99 for one-hour Prime Now delivery. Two-hour delivery is free.

Amazon had previously planned to build more than 1.1 million square feet of office space on the block as part of its Denny Triangle headquarters project. It is unclear how the plans for Prime Now will affect the office project. Amazon officials did not return a request for comment.

Ware Malcomb, an Irvine, California-based firm that does architecture, planning, interiors, graphics and civil engineering, is listed on the site plan.
