Pryde + Johnson has begun construction on a seven-story apartment complex at 1537 N.W. 56th St. in Ballard.
The 106-unit project will cater to young professionals and families, according to a press release. Opening is set for fall 2016.
Tiscareno Associates is the architect and Rush Commercial is the general contractor. Other team members are: CT Engineering, structural engineer; KPFF Consulting Engineers, civil engineer; Emerald Aire, mechanical engineer; two 9 Design, interiors; and Thomas Rengstorf & Associates, landscape architect.
In a nod to Ballard's Nordic roots, the complex will be named Keelson, which comes from the Swedish word for a boat keel.
The ground floor will have live/work units ranging from 680 to 900 square feet. Studios will have floor-to-ceiling windows, and most units will have balconies or decks.
Designed as a pet-friendly building, Keelson will have a dog run and a dog washing station on the roof.
Pryde + Johnson is a locally owned family development firm that says it is focused on green building. Its other Ballard projects include Soren and Hjarta.
